I think the question really should be "How is Houdini being used in a studio and who is using it". If you look at many of the Houdini related job postings, they always seem to ask for TD skills...computer science and math backgrounds. No offense but it seems like nerd first animator second. So if you have this great tool that a "genius" can wire up in the pipeline to do all the fancy stuff and have all the boring grunty animation work get done in Maya, there won't be a huge demand to expand the number of Houdini seats. And the people they hire to use Houdini will just feed the same beast.

Technical Discussion » vertex normals from fbx on blend

Hey
Importing an fbx with some blend shapes from modo….comes into Houdini with the blend shape but the vertex normals don't transform so the render goes to poo when you blend. I know there is a simple fix but I can't remember where I saw it. Any ideas

Here's an example of what I'm talking about….it has something to do with when I convert the volumes to vdb and use the vector merge to get the Ce….the resampling doesn't convert properly…if I change the resolution to 1, everything works??? any ideas?

Hey
So trying to get cloudlight to work with Redshift…got it working okay but the Resolution Scale causes some sort of offset with the volumes…so forexample .5 scale and the effect shows up in a quarter chunk of my cloud…the volumes are not in the same position…can't see anything obvious.

I'm putting hair on my character…long hair, short hair, facial hair, eyebrows, etc…Is it better to follow the 16 masterclass workflow by using painted density attributes for each part or use the 16.5 masterclass workflow where he used primitive groups. I would think the grouping would cook faster?

I keep getting this
mantra: Unable to resolve geometry opobj/test_groom/OUT_GROOM.
Please ensure the object is included for rendering.
You can turn off vm_renderable if needed.
everything looks fine and can't figure it out … I'm sure I'm doing something obvious….
